Between the universe of flora in the oceans and a tribute to Spanish cultural talent, the collections of Odette Álvarez and Malne navigate, who have been in charge of putting the finishing touch to the first day of parades of the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid.

"This collection is a tribute to the excess of talent, sensuality and joy that Spain has in its cultural heritage", the designers behind the brand Malne, Juanjo Mánez and Paloma Álvarez, told Efe prior to presenting their parade, the last one at Ifema during the first day of the official calendar, which under the title Excess becomes a particular tribute to Spanish culture.

The culture of tailoring, crafts and crafts made by hand thus become the inspiration for Malne, who pays homage "to many artists who have taken the Spanish to the superlative" through designs that reflect this imaginary that they lead back to their terrain of sober tones and marked and elegant structures that are intermingled with brightness and transparencies.

Boleros inspired by the world of bullfighting with pronounced shoulder pads, mantillas that drink from religious references, fabrics in wheat tones that "remit to the countryside of Castilla" and other light colors that evoke "summer in Ibiza" are some of the garments in which the duo of creators prints their imaginary, in a chromatic range that starts from black and neutral colors to be dotted with neons such as yellow or fuchsia.

Faithful to making "signature designs that are recognizable", Malne makes jackets with marked shoulder pads, two-piece suits, bodysuits and also flowing dresses, in textures ranging from jute to ostrich feathers or elaborate embroidery sewn to among which stand out large flowers, which are complemented by the prints of the artist Silvia Flechoso on some accessories.

Subsequently, and at the Hotel Urso in Madrid, Odette Álvarez presented Sirene, her second fashion show under the same name within the framework of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid. In the collection, she configures a 21st century mermaid, flooded with trends that drink from the imaginary of the seabed and materialize in handmade pieces made in Spain.

"My collections are always a tribute to women. In this case, to mermaids, who unite this inspiration with my love for the sea, so I rescued the legend of the "Sirenuca" to create this collection", explains Álvarez to Efe about a famous legend of mermaids Santander, where he lives.

Vinyl sequins in an XL version, fitted bodies and embroidery with starfish that recreate the flora of reef corals are materialized in twenty outfits that the Cantabrian woman uploads to the catwalks, in a "very colorful" range, which goes from different ranges of blue to yellow, coral, sand tones or black, recreating the palette of the seabed.

Sleeves that recreate jellyfish and pieces with a second-skin effect are interspersed with marked shoulder pads, detailed embroidery with beads and feathers, some of the hallmarks of Odette Álvarez's fashion, who presents this collection after having received "a very good reception " in his debut as a brand of the same name last April, with a line that he defines as "more mature, special and tailored".

Two-piece suits, plain coats and stone skirts are the stars of a proposal that joins the see now buy now fashion bandwagon, in which the garments can be purchased from the moment of the show, consolidating this new line after the success from his firm Teté bu Odette, created in 2010 and with which the day of the Madrid catwalk closes.
