You open your closet first thing Monday morning with your eyes still squinting to see what you're going to wear to work. You have a lot of t-shirts and a lot of pants. What's more, a large part of these garments you have never worn and you think that today could be a good day to change your outfit. While you change one shirt for another and try to combine something different, the minutes go by and, if you don't hurry, you'll be late for work again. In short, to save time, you go from doing experiments and wear the usual, which never fails. The question is: why do you have so many clothes if you always wear the same thing? The answer is because of our unsustainable way of consuming.

In recent years, the logic of producing, consuming and disposing of garments in increasingly shorter cycles of time has been normalized. The fast fashion formula has been destroying the planet and the fashion industry has not cared about discarding perfectly recyclable clothing in order to satisfy the consumer's desire for novelty.

At the same time, climate change is happening and if we want to stop it, we will need to find new solutions to make our clothes much more sustainable. This search for sustainability has been the basis of Levi's work for years . Under the slogan of their latest global campaign “Buy better, wear longer”, they focus on innovations that make their jeans and other garments more durable than ever: with materials made with the utmost care, from purchase to finish. His philosophy of durability goes far beyond everyday use. Levi's® garments are built to be worn and designed to get better over time.

Since 2011 and with the introduction of the Waterless system, 75% of the cotton it uses now comes from more sustainable sources and the products are made in factories where the well-being of the workers is guaranteed.

And to continue building on the path of sustainability, Levi’s supports the Back to Eco project for the reuse, recycling and upcyling of denim products at a local level. This Barcelona association specializes in what is called “post-consumer denim”: from the denim garments that you no longer wear, obtains a new fabric that combines recycled material with fibers of organic production and of vegetable origin. This means that the biodegradability of the new garments is maintained to the maximum and that they last much longer in your wardrobe. Because the point here is not that clothes are worn for a season or two, but for generations.

To join this initiative you will only have to donate the jeans or denim jackets that only take up space in your wardrobe, through different recycling points that Levi's will have in some of its selected stores. Back To Eco will take care of recycling, reusing and transforming garments to create new, much more durable and sustainable products, giving your garments a second life and contributing to making systems based on the circular economy increasingly a real option when it comes to consume.

As a generation that wants a more sustainable world to live in, we feel that fast fashion garments have stopped representing us because they do not meet our values and our ecological awareness. Now more than ever our role is decisive, we must firmly commit to recycling and reuse, asking ourselves new questions and questioning our way of consuming. Do we really need that sale garment? Do we know what is behind it? It is necessary to be aware that, unfortunately, a price that is too low usually also means the generation of a large amount of waste .

The key to reversing not only the social and environmental impact of the industry It is in the daily decisions we make, such as taking to recycle or not those jeans that no longer fit us or reusing a jacket that you thought was lost . Initiatives such as Levi's together with Back To Eco that promote the choice of garments made under the circular fashion model, are not only a great alternative but also an urgent need. Our planet cannot wait.
