When Irina Karamanos, couple of President -elect Gabriel Boric and future first lady, went to the ratification of the Elections to Servel, arrived using a Tunic of Guido Vera, Chilean designer who is based in Paris to follow her expansion, after a step through the city from Mexico.

Vera is one of the first 10 designers who said yes to Karina Toro for her marketplace called Rev Store.Brides, Ceremony, Lamartic, Luppo, Martín Luttecke, Munay Sisters, Roberta, Sebastián del Real Ossa and Palosanto, are the other members. To be part of the Marketplace that Toro put together from his savings and with his partner, the programmer Cristián López, the requirements are committed to the Slow Fashion, to have his own designs and manufacture, in fair, in Chile in Chile.

"No" Fast Fashion

One day he decided to leave there. After a professional career associated with marketing and production of fashion catalogs in renowned Chilean retail brands, journalist Karina Toro told herself that "fast fashion" was not theirs of theirs.I could no longer encourage that industry and decided to undertake.

The idea started in 2016, same time when it stopped buying clothes in the retail.Today you only dress with second -hand wardrobe or with Chilean design. “Antes era compradora usual de Zara, H&M.I started investigating and the Fast Fashion is well frustrated and even more so being part of that market, ”he says.

At first, what Toro was looking for was to make a virtual megaoutlet."The stores" donate "their wineries, but really what they do is throw clothes that end in places like that image they showed from the Atacama desert," he explains.

There were approaches with retailers to join this project, but nothing was completed. Then the social outbreak and the pandemic arrived, and then he gave him a new turn again. This time without the retail: make a professional marketplace only with Chilean costume designers.

“With confinement, closed stores and lack of stock, people started buying online and national designers because they had clothes before. Many of them did not have professional web pages, and there I saw the opportunity, ”says Toro, also creator of the Sunday Fairs, which were held in an Eriazo site in full providence.

Incorporate footwear, jewelry, accessories and beauty products

Although they are just starting, Toro says that he has already received many designers interested in integrating to the platform for the second launch and there are people buying garments.

Rev is in charge from marketing to orders office. And in June he hopes to make a version of the Sunday that includes samples in situ from designers, in addition to music and outdoor activities.

With this, what Toro wants to demonstrate is that in Chile there are not only "emerging designers", but there is also a wave of creators who is transferring the borders and making known of the country more than in his own home.

Above all, he says, he wants to help raise awareness with clothing consumption.

“People say a lot that national design is too expensive, but I always ask back: do you think it is a t -shirt cost $ 5,000?If you go to independence, no fabric costs 5 lucas. Then you have to sit down for a moment when you get to that price. We must explain what is the value of things, part by: the fabric, the one that cuts and sews, the one who designs. And there people understand, ”he says.

Points to new generations like the great allies.“Younger people are more aware of the environment, climatic crisis and costume consumption. And with the fall of gender stereotypes, the same garment can have several lives in more than one person, ”he adds.

The next stage of Marketplace, advances, is to incorporate footwear, jewelry, accessories and beauty products designers. All with the same acceptance protocol: conscious, unique and national.
