The Alcampo distribution chain, with 310 operating centers in Spain, is going to reinforce its commitment to second-hand clothing by incorporating a new corner in its center in Esplugues de Llobregat (Barcelona) in collaboration with Moda re b>-, a social initiative promoted by Cáritas whose purpose is to promote the reuse of clothing as well as the social and labor inclusion of vulnerable groups.
This pioneering initiative in Spain began last May at the Alcampo de Sant Boi de Llobregat, also in Barcelona, and is a formula that has been extended throughout 2021 to other Alcampo centers .
The Moda re- corner is managed by the Fundación Formació i Treball (an entity promoted by Cáritas Barcelona), it is located in the Alcampo textile area and has an assortment of approximately 400 references with prices that will oscillate between 3 and 30 euros, and will vary depending on the different offers.
The incorporation of this new corner means taking another step in favor of the circular economy and waste reduction, also favoring the social integration of people at risk of social exclusion.
Moda re- is a social project that promotes the hiring of vulnerable people, accompanying them through a personalized insertion process with the aim of, once they have acquired the necessary professional skills, incorporating them into the market labor.
Specifically Moda re-, through the collection, selection as well as the sale of clothing, empowers these people in transport trades, industrial classification and customer service.
In Spain, the project has 36 clothing reception plants and 3 treatment plants located in Bilbao, Valencia and Barcelona, where garments are prepared for reuse or recycling.
For its part, Alcampo is committed to putting a social initiative at the forefront with a double objective: on the one hand, to make visible the background of the Moda re- project and on the other, to raise awareness consumers of the importance of textile reuse. For this reason, Alcampo cedes the space without profit, with the entire margin generated by these sales destined for social projects linked to Cáritas.
Alcampo and Moda have collaborated since 2020, after reaching an agreement for the installation of Cáritas clothing collection containers in their car parks, something that is already a reality in around thirty hypermarkets.
In addition, Alcampo donates to this entity the garments from its stores that are suitable for use but not for sale, so that they can be included in the circuits of reuse, recycling and donation of Moda re-.
Alcampo brings together the formats of hypermarkets, hypermarkets and proximity. Currently, it has 310 centers (62 hypermarkets and 248 supermarkets), as well as 53 gas stations, an online commerce service and a workforce of 20,000 workers.
For its part, Moda has 6,000 containers on public roads and other private locations such as health centers, schools or supermarkets. Those garments suitable to offer them a second life are put up for sale in one of their 100 own stores.
