It will be a bitter end of the year for at least seven families, most of them from the department of Córdoba, who lost their loved ones after a serious traffic incident that occurred early Monday morning on the Medellín-Bogotá highway, at the height of the municipality of San Luis.

The special services bus in which they were traveling and that covered the Bogotá-Moñitos (Córdoba) route, with 46 passengers on board, suffered a serious accident around 2:10 a.m. of this December 27 at kilometer 73, in the vicinity of the La Leticia ravine, of the La Josefina village.

During the day of attention, the authorities advanced in the expert assessment of the vehicle to determine the exact causes of the accident, with the main hypothesis that it was the loss of maneuverability of the driver, who died after the fact

Despite the constant signs warning of the danger present at the kilometer 73 curve, the man could do little to prevent the bus from falling five meters into the void to the bed of the La Leticia ravine and cause tragedy.

Survivors' account

While a drizzle fell that left the atmosphere in the area more humid, five of the survivors who were unharmed guarded –with their damp and still bloody clothes– the suitcases and other belongings that were left in the vehicle remains.

They were accompanied by a group of police officers and soldiers who looked in silence at the place where the bus had stopped. For a moment they came out of their reverie, when some Invías workers offered them their lunches, because despite the immediate attention from the relief agencies of San Luis and the neighboring municipalities, from the moment of the accident little was done. that they had eaten.

EL COLOMBIANO was in the area of ​​the accident and spoke with some of those affected. Making a notorious effort to overcome her head injury, Cler Pérez, one of the injured passengers, narrated that she was traveling in the company of her daughter and her mother and that they left the Venecia sector, in Bogotá , bound for Córdoba, on Sunday at 6:00 p.m.

The passengers, although they did not know each other, were members of several families from different municipalities of Córdoba, such as El Banco, Montería, San Pelayo and Moñitos, the vehicle's final destination. They were based in Bogotá and returned to spend the New Year's festivities in their places of origin.

According to relief agencies, the seven dead included two women, one of whom was five months pregnant. A Police mayorcomplained about the poor cell phone signal in the area, and assured that for this reason valuable minutes were lost in which more lives could be saved, for which reason he asked that the a telephone antenna that a month ago was removed.
